Update: Due to COVID-19 and the operating status of New Jersey schools, the voting period has been postponed to run from April 17 through May 17. Updates have been reflected in the contest rules listed below.
Eligibility and Participation: Contest is open only to those who are, as of the date of entry, legal residents of New Jersey, eighteen (18) years of age or older, and who are a School Administrator, Teacher, Coach, Band Director or other administrative position (hereafter, “Authorized Representative” and/or “Entrant”) authorized to represent a New Jersey middle school band program (hereafter, “School”) and able to participate in this Contest. Entrants will be responsible for securing any necessary School permission (including the use of School uniforms, trademarks and logos) prior to participating in this Contest, and hereby certifies they have permission to post the entry and to grant Rutgers the rights outlined herein regarding the entry. Contest is void where prohibited by law. No purchase necessary to enter or win, and entry into the Contest is free.
How To Enter:
1. Upload the video of your middle school band performing “The Bells Must Ring” to YouTube or Vimeo.
2. Provide the YouTube or Vimeo link on the submission form located at RUbattleofthebands.com*
3. Complete the submission form on RUbattleofthebands.com and submit.
*If you cannot submit via YouTube or Vimeo, please mail the video of your entry on a flash drive to:

Deadline to enter is on or before February 28, 2020.
Limit one (1) entry per middle school band program during the entry period.
Finalist Selection: Five (5) finalists will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of Rutgers University faculty and staff based on Overall Performance (50%), Clarity and Uniformity (40%), and Musicianship (10%) by March 20, 2020. The Entrants who submitted the five (5) highest scoring submissions, as determined by Rutgers in its sole discretion, will be deemed potential finalist Schools (subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms of these rules) and will be contacted by Rutgers. NOTE: Entrant must be an Authorized Representative who is approved to participate on School’s behalf. Noncompliance with the foregoing, with these official rules or any notification not responded to, may result in disqualification and, at Rutgers’ discretion, a runner-up being notified. Rutgers reserves the right to select fewer than five (5) finalist Schools if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified submissions.
Voting and Winner Selection: Finalists’ videos will be posted to RUbattleofthebands.com on April 17, 2020. The general public can then vote for their favorite performance beginning April 17, 2020 at 10 a.m. ET and ending May 17, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The video with the most votes will be selected as the winner. Voters are allowed one vote, per person, per day of the voting period. Additional votes received beyond the specified limit or generated by script, macro or other automated means or with the intent to affect the integrity of the voting process will be void. Entrants are prohibited from obtaining votes by fraudulent or inappropriate means, including, without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public, as defined by Rutgers in its sole discretion. Voters who do not comply with the voting instructions, as determined in the sole discretion of Rutgers, will not have their votes cast or counted.
Winner Notification: Winner will be announced on RUbattleofthebands.com after May 17, 2020.
PRIZE: The winning band will be invited to perform at half-time during a Rutgers football game during the 2020-2021 season.
Contest Details: Entrants agree that by submitting a submission, he/she hereby irrevocably grants Rutgers, its governors, trustees, employees and its affiliates, and each of their respective licensees, agents, representatives and other authorized users (collectively, the “Rutgers Parties”), without the requirement of any permission from or payment to Entrant or to any other person or entity, a perpetual, non-exclusive, irrevocable, fully-paid, royalty-free, sub-licensable and transferable worldwide license to use, re-use, reproduce, transmit, print, publish, display, exhibit, distribute, re-distribute, copy, host, store, cache, archive, index, categorize, comment on, broadcast, stream, edit, alter, modify, adapt, translate, create derivative works based upon and publicly perform such submission, in whole or in part (including, without limitation, all names, voices and likenesses contained in the submission), in all internet and online means and media now known or hereafter devised, for any and all purposes including, without limitation, news, advertising, promotional, marketing, publicity, trade or commercial purposes, all without further notice to you or to any third party and with or without attribution. Entrants acknowledge and agree that participation in the Contest grants them no rights or interest in any Rutgers intellectual property, including any rights to “The Bells Must Ring” song.
Entrant further warrant and represent that (1) Rutgers shall own the submission (and all material embodied therein); (2) that by entering, the Entrant irrevocably assigns to Rutgers and its designees any and all rights, title and interest in the submission including but not limited to all intellectual property rights; (3) anyone engaged by Entrant to participate or appear in the submission has no claims for payment of any kind, has no approval or consultation rights or any rights of participation; and (4) that Rutgers and its designees shall have, without limitation, the perpetual, right, but not the obligation, worldwide to edit, adapt, modify, publish, exploit and use the submission in any way and in any media for trade, advertising, promotional and/or other purposes as Rutgers and/or its designees may determine without further consideration, notification or permission of Entrants, winners or any third parties or, at its discretion, remove any submission.
By participating, each Entrant acknowledges and agrees: (1) to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of Rutgers and judges which are final and binding in all respects; (2) that his/her submission (and all components thereof) will not be acknowledged or returned; (3) that Rutgers Parties and their respective designees shall have the right and permission to use (unless prohibited by law) School’s name, logo, nicknames, mascot, city and state as outlined herein; and (4) the Rutgers Parties shall have no liability and will be held harmless by Entrants for any liability, loss, injury or damage to participants or any other person or entity, including personal injury or death to participants or any other person or damage to personal or real property, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by reason of Entrant’s participation in this Contest, the use of any video or acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize (including any travel or activity related thereto).
Any School that submitting an entry into the Contest hereby represents and warrants that, if chosen as the winner, each member of the School coming to Rutgers to perform shall (i) comply with all applicable Rutgers, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA rules, regulations and policies (including the Rutgers Minors on Campus policy), (ii) all minors shall have parental consent to perform.
